3. What is the importance of Mulley in the chapter? What is the difference between being the hunter and being the hunted.

Mulley is an important character in chapter six. He reveals how the events that took place in chapter 5, the intercalary chapter, affected Tom and the rest of the Joad family. This is one of the first turning points in the novel. It completely redirects the path Tom was persueing. The author also uses Mulley as an opportunity to show how the progressing culture was harming traditional values; particulary family unity. The difference between the hunted and the hunter is control. The hunter is always in control and makes decisions. The hunted reacts to the hunters decisions and acts accordingly. The hunted movements are always directed by the hunter.
