Chapter 6 Passage

“You shouldn’t of broke up the fambly.”

This passage shows that Tom is a strong believer in the family unit. He believes that a family should stay together. This is most likely due to his past experiences. The farmers employed the help of a large family to harvest crops and run the farms. Division was lethal. A family had to stay together for success and prosperity. This passage also illustrates the changing times of this time period. In this new situation, a product of modern affairs, it was more beneficial to leave a family member behind. It illustrates how revolutionary this time period was and shows the authors disapproval of it.
